Práticas culturais e leitura: leitoras e formas de resistir

Abstract

RESUMO: A análise da trajetória de leitura de mulheres com faixa etária entre setenta e noventa anos é o foco do presente artigo. As lembranças dessas senhoras leitoras apontam algumas marcas históricas em relação ao discurso lançado sobre o gênero feminino. Embora tenham iniciado a prática da leitura na infância, incentivadas pelos pais, as leitoras trazidas para esse debate não concluíram a Educação Básica, saíram da escola pela imposição paterna para se casar ou devido à distância entre a residência e a escola. Apesar disso, essas leitoras indicam as obras dos autores Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, José de Alencar, Raquel de Queiroz, etc, como as que mais marcaram suas juventudes. Vale lembrar que nenhuma das obras foi indicada pela instituição escolar, os livros da tradição literária foram indicados por amigas, pelos pais e pela divulgação em revistas. À luz dos estudos sobre Práticas Culturais e História da Leitura, trago o discurso de mulheres leitoras para o debate, procurando perceber como a leitura, mais precisamente a leitura literária, é percebida por elas. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: The aim of the current article is the analysis of the reading trajectory taken by womem whose ages go from seventy to ninety years old. These ladies’ memories reveal some historical passages which are related to the discourse lauched over the feminine genre. Even though they had started their reading practices during childhood, encouraged by their parents, these female readers had not concluded their elementary education because they had to leave school under their parents imposition in order to get married and due to the distance from their residences and their schools. In spite of that fact, these ladies recommend authors such as Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, José de Alencar, Raquel de Queiroz, among others, just to mention some writers who were remarkable in their youth. It is worth remembering that those books were not indicated by their educational institutions but by their friends, parents and also by some magazine ads which became their reading sources to books that are still part of the literary tradition or canon. Thus, based on the studies of Cultural Practices and Reading History, I bring these ladies’ discourses to debate, trying to find out how reading itself, mainly the literary reading, can be felt by them.
